Cosmetic Gynecology: Labiaplasty (Labial Reduction Surgery)

Excess labial tissue or uneven labias can pose multiple challenges to a woman. They can be aesthetically embarrassing to women and may interfere in their sexual life, but our labiaplasty procedure can help.

Aesthetic Issues:

Labias may protrude from bikini bottoms or underwear and may make wearing swimsuits uncomfortable. Women who play sports are often bothered by the friction of their labia against tight clothing.

Sexual Issues:

Labias may cause pain during intercourse upon insertion as the excess labial tissue leads to rubbing and chronic irritation.

The Labiaplasty Procedure

Labiaplasty is a labia surgery to reduce the labia minora (the vaginal lips). This is done by removing the excess skin fold that can become floppy and sometimes uneven. The procedure is performed in an outpatient surgical center or in the office.

During a labiaplasty, the patient is put under local anesthesia and is completely pain-free during the procedure. The actual labiaplasty procedure time is relatively short: approximately 60 - 90 minutes with very little down time.

Dr. Ghozland uses the Ellman Surgitron to perform the labia reduction surgery in order to ensure extremely precise incisions in order to get the most cosmetic appearance. The Surgitron is less destructive and more precise than the lasers that are often advertised.
